
In Polish, Pijeta has a double meaning. It is a play on words: my Christ-young manfallen
angel pije [drinks], drowns his sorrows, loses himself. So the Pijeta is the ancient presentation
of the suffering of the Madonna and her son, and also a neologism from Pi? [to drink]...
Viola Tycz
Graduated from the Graphics Faculty of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroc?aw in 2000.
Received a scholarship from the Pilar Juncos and Jean Miro Foundation in 2002, and a Creative Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in 2006.
Voted Artist of the Year by readers of ARTEON art magazine in 2006. She has received numerous awards and distinctions, including the Special Award at the International Graphics Biennial
in Gliwice, 1999; Grand Prize at the International Graphics Biennial in Ostrów Wielkopolski, 2001; Grand Prix IV at the International Graphics Triennial in Cairo, Egypt, 2003; honorary mention
at the International Graphics Triennial in Cracow, 2003; and the Jury Award at the 4th International MiniPrint Triennial, TAMA, Tokyo University, Japan, 2005.
